What is IATAN Accreditation?

IATAN stands for International Airlines Travel Agent Network. It’s the US arm of the International Air Transport Association which also goes by IATA. Their goal is to support air travel and tourism within the US and abroad. IATAN accreditation allows you to benefit from reduced rate travel from various participating airlines. Examples of participating airlines are Allegiant, British Airways, Iceland Air, and many others. Additionally, the accreditation allows you and your agency access to many other discounts and deals from travel suppliers.

Why should I become accredited?

The benefits of the IATAN program are many. We discussed one of the major benefits above which is discounted travel which can be resold to your clients. However, many other benefits exist. Below is a list of just some of the additional benefits:

  • IATAN/IATA ID Card (Eligibility requirements here)
  • Use of the IATAN accreditation logo
  • Global recognition
  • Access to a network of over 100,000 travel professionals
  • And many more!

Now that we understand the benefits, let’s discuss the cost of IATAN accreditation.

How much does it cost?

The fees vary depending on your business type and structure. Head offices and branch offices of travel agencies must pay $235 for a new application. However, corporate travel departments must pay $390. Additionally, the price for independent contractors is also different. They must pay $95 dollars for a new application fee. IATAN/IATA cards cost between $35 and $45 depending on how they’re purchased. For example: Online card purchases are cheaper than calling IATAN to purchase the ID card(s).
